Draft licence. REP9 0.1 is not legal advice; legal effect depends on the situation. Why it’s a draft

REP9

Terms

Terms of use.

The short version: REP9 is an early service, and Licence 0.1 is a published draft. Use it with that status in mind.

Plain-English notice

Why REP9 0.1 is a draft.

AI systems and the rules around them are changing quickly. REP9 0.1 makes the proposed licence, declarations and machine-readable forms available for public use and review now, while leaving room to improve later versions. REP9 is not a law firm; this is not legal advice, and we cannot tell you what legal effect a declaration will have in a particular situation.

Read the draft licence

What draft means

Version 0.1 is published for use and review, but it is not presented as settled law or a final industry standard. Its wording and technical representations may change in later versions. Material changes will be identified by version so that a declaration can continue to point to the text it names.

What the licence does

The licence records a contributor’s limited grant and reservation of rights, to the extent that contributor holds those rights. It does not promise that another person, platform, AI system, regulator or court will treat the declaration in any particular way.

How it will evolve

We expect the text and its technical forms to evolve as the technology and surrounding rules develop. We welcome scrutiny from lawyers, regulators, technologists, advocates, and the people who use or receive REP9 declarations. That review will inform future, separately identified versions.

Your decision to use it

You are responsible for deciding whether REP9 is appropriate for your situation. For advice about your rights, obligations, contracts, or a particular dispute, speak to an independent qualified legal adviser in the relevant jurisdiction.
